Our new book is being launched this week that aims to provide Christian spiritual comfort for those with dementia.
The book ‘Strength for the Journey’ was inspired by Christians who whilst working on a day-to-day basis with people who have dementia, had nothing available to them to help them communicate with people around the subject of their faith.
This book will fill a real gap in helping people who are approaching the end of life and are in need of spiritual support and comfort, but who have severe communication difficulties. By the use of powerful, beautiful and carefully selected images and texts, the book successfully engages people who are hard to reach, and helps families, carers and pastoral visitors to provide the meaningful communication and spiritual support that many people so desperately need.
Even those with dementia who may have no Christian faith but who were brought up with daily school assemblies and Sunday School may find the book comforting in helping their recollection of childhood church experiences.
The project was made possible through the support of a range of funders including the 'Christian Initiative Trust', 'The Cinnamon Network', 'The Elise Pilkington Trust' and the Beatrice Laing Trust. The editorial team comprised of dementia specialists and members of representatives of three different Christian denominations.
